Amanda took first honours (?) in our Embarrassing Stories contest, with her cringe-worthy tale of accidental insensitivity.
In her own words:
TV can be educational! It’s the early 80s; the Roots series about America’s history had just been rebroadcast on PBS. But no one thought to educate 3-year-old me about what I saw. That is, until we were at the Detroit airport, and tiny me, in my incredibly loud voice, announced “LOOK MOM! SLAVES!” at seeing my first non-white people. Apparently my parents are good at disappearing in a hurry. Oops.

Sorry, Amanda, but for your troubles you at least get a sweet prize pack including The Selling of Scarry Manor DVD (Signed), a pair of hand-made Minion Slippers, and a Dengler sticker-book!

Good job everyone! Bring it in for a high five!

Uh, OK, yeah. Cool.
We had a fun morning and only broke Alex like… twice… three times maybe…
…that or he just stayed broke.
Either way, the coffee wasn’t helping the situation
We had a Super Saiyan Fight… it was as eventful as you can imagine. Note Maya’s reaction in the back

It snowed inside the Moon Base (thanks Engineering!) to get the Cheevo.
The Official Desert Bus Stained Glass went up for auction – Paul used his super powers to get the bidders to keep going higher and higher with our own Dix needing to bow out at $2.5K. The bidding went on for nearly 30 minutes with Raiger winning it at $4000.00 for the Children!
Raiger did had special shipping instructions though….

That’s right folks, Raiger gifted his hard won bid (which he won from his phone while at work) to Dix.
Thank you. So much. Tears and laughter and excitement and all the feels – before it was even 8am.
Then we were all regaled with some amazing Ashton and Dix fan fic with James narrating and the other characters voiced by their namesakes. It should be noted that Dix only resisted once.
Paul sang us songs! Ashton’s shift ended with him beating Jer’s total! This is the first time a Zeta shift has beat the total of a day shift – well dong!
Bill & The Mighty Bill’s Mom joined us for the day time shift, played Jenga, and chatted with Jim Sterling!
We had an art contest set up by Bill’s mom that was based on a story about Bill needing to pee.
Steve Dengler of Dracogen and XE.com Inc. fame came for a visit and dressed up because… Star Trek (continues), that’s why. He is the self-declared King of Desert Bus – he’s pretty cool and he brings his own crown so we don’t argue.
And, perhaps most notably, we hit 500 Fluhes!! Whew!
Story-Time Contest!
Prize – The Selling of Scarry Manor DVD (Signed)
Pre-Sweetened – Minion Slippers!
Dengler-Sweetened the prize further with a goodie he brought from home (book w/stickers!)

We’re stoked to have The Rover Outpost as a sponsor yet again this year. They are responsible for our wonderful Desert Bus 7 Crests and our Crafter badges.
They supply replica Rover crests and other patches, as well as embroidery and woven labels of any shape or size to custom designs, for individuals, teams, events and employers. The Rover Outpost is a husband and wife team who started out looking to have some epaulettes made that Canadian Scout Shops no longer sell. Now they offer geeky Mario and iPirate patches in their online store, as well as purveying hats, pins and key tags!
Once upon a time a long time ago, when Bill was young and tall (really there is no time he was NOT tall), he needed to pee. Ever need to pee so bad your eyeballs start to float? No? Well, we don’t recommend it.
Bill’s mom wants to see your best artistic interpretation of:
Eyeball Floatage
You have just over an hour to get your submissions in to contests@desertbus.org
Since Bill is a generous overlord he has declared that there shall be prizes for both the first and second place!
