Holy Bus! Desert Bus 2017 is less than 4 days away!!

Remember, donations are open so feel free to start adding to our total right now! Lets see how much time we can put on the clock before we even begin!

In the meantime, here’s….

Prize Preview #4
Bamboo Plywood D20 Dice Box

“This is an icosahedral bamboo box. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is fastened with the rarest of earthen magnets. Symbols of fate are emblazoned on every facet.”
This is one of only 3 such boxes crafted, each with unique iconography, but the first to be available publicly. This box features the numbers 1 to 20 engraved and burned on the outside faces. The idea came a few years ago as a unique way to store a collection of dice and other small gaming components and as a challenge of woodworking skill. The box has enough capacity to hold several standard sets of dice, and will stand out from the crowd at any gaming table. Usage and care instructions, as well as technical specifications are included on a card inside the box.

Thomas Coe, Craftsdwarf, has created Tenshed Etost, a bamboo plywood box! Thomas developed his creative woodworking talents while working at a cabinetry shop in Victoria, BC, Canada. His interests include gaming and woodworking, and creates projects or crafts almost exclusively as gifts or personal projects. Past projects include 2 other d20 boxes, one with Elder Futhark runes and the other with Skaven runes, a more standard 6-sided dice box with custom engraved lid (2d6 in relief), custom chess board with playing pieces and storage box, and a Viking period chest.

DONATIONS ARE OPEN!!

We know you’ve all been itching to donate money to Desert bus and make sure our drivers have to play the most boring video game in the world for as long as possible…
YOUR WAIT IS OVER!!

Head on over to the donation page and start giving what you can!

As always, all money raised goes directly to the Child’s Play Charity to help improve the lives of children in hospitals and domestic violence shelters.

The more money we raise at Desert Bus, the longer we play the game and continue to entertain you with challenges, terrible dancing and general silliness!

Please donate for the children!

Prize Preview #3
Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Cross Stitch

Desert Bus 2017 is only two weeks away, and what better way to celebrate that than with a prize preview!  Remember to get those donor accounts made or updated so you can have a chance at winning/bidding on prizes like this…

Gaze out over scenic Hyrule with an embroidered version of the game’s iconic cover image. Ignore the Bokoblins that are definitely not sneaking up behind you and the benign-looking Guardian buried just off to the side. You’re fine. Probably. …You’ve still got an unbroken sword or two in your inventory though, right? This piece measures roughly 13×13 inches. It is made up of 31320 stitches in 76 different colours, and took roughly 260 hours to sew, along with another 40-50 hours to design the pattern and select the colours. It has been custom framed in conservation masterpiece acrylic, which is lightweight and shatterproof, has UV protection, reduces reflections, and doesn’t attract dust. It’s probably more durable than that weapon you just picked up.

0045_010_CrossStitch.jpgThis prize has been donated to Desert Bus by Sarah Overall.  Sarah has been a crafter since her early teens and a geek since she learned how to read, so it was only a matter of time until she found a way to combine the two. She mostly works with embroidery, but has also learned crochet (inspired by other people’s amazing Desert Bus donations) and likes to dabble in other crafts. Sarah also works as an editor, where she gets to be a geek about the English language. This is her eighth year contributing to the craft-along and her tenth watching Desert Bus.

Prize Preview #2
MtG Inspired Lotus Quilt

Can’t afford a black lotus card? Why not cuddle up in your own black lotus inspired quilt, or simply hang it up as a decoration. At 40×60 this handmade quilt is perfect for either. We’ve even included a couple of easter eggs. One is an obvious nod; the other is a little harder.

0033_004_blanket.jpgThis prize has been donated to Desert Bus by Kaitlynn & Lisa Riehl.  Lisa and Katie are mother and daughter who spend much of their free time doing various crafts. Quilting has been a major hobby for Lisa for many years in addition to other sewing crafts. Katie spends more of her time playing video games and tabletop games, but also enjoys working with fabrics. Both of them love watching Desert Bus every year and have participated in the craft along in previous years. Thank you, Lisa and Katie!

Prize Preview #1: Shift Banner Cat Cube

Prize Preview #1
Shift Banner Cat Cube

Celebrate a great Desert Bus tradition year round with this one-of-a-kind cat bed made of soft fleece and plush foam. The sides are decorated with each of the four shift banners, allowing you (or your cat) to express yourself as you see fit. Match the top side to your favorite shift, or introduce mandatory stretch breaks into your cat’s schedule as you rotate the cube every 6 hours in coordination with the shift changes! However you choose to display it, your cat will have a cozy place to sleep and your house will have a functional reminder of the joy that is Desert Bus.0038_002_catcube.jpg0038_008_catcube.jpg

This Prize has been donated to us by Lauren Schmidt.  Lauren has been sewing since she was 7 and now focuses mostly on cosplay and cat-based crafts. Her two cats are deeply offended every time she makes a bed that they can’t sleep in, despite the fact that they already have cubes made specifically for them. This is her 5th year contributing to the Craft-Along.  Thank you, Lauren!

Welcome to the Desert Bus 2017 Craft-Along!
June 15, 2017 at 09:00 AM PDT
Posted by Ashton

Do you paint? Sew? Use found objects to create adorable sculptures of pets from video games? Good, because it’s that time of year again.  On June 15th submissions for the Desert Bus 2017 Craft-Along will officially be open.  You will have until June 30th to get your submissions in, so that we can get back to you with enough time to complete your crafts.  We endeavor to provide everyone with a response to your submission by July 15th. The deadline for receipt of finished crafts will be September 30th.

If you are new to the Craft-Along, and have a great idea for a craft for DB, the process is simple just follow the link for Craft-Along submissions (http://craftalong.desertbus.org/), and fill in the form.  We will need contact information, a description of the craft, and a few other pieces of info.  If you are a returning crafter, well that’s old news; however, this year we will only be taking one submission per crafter.  As this year we have a new Prize Mistress, and Craft-Along Coordinator, we are reducing the total number of prizes, both in terms of awesome crafts, and in terms of those donated by our amazing sponsors.   This gives us a chance to learn the ropes, and give each of you and your projects more attention.

The Desert Bus For Hope Craft-Along community is full of incredibly kind and gifted people who give so much of themselves, and for that we are eternally grateful.  Its people like you who make Desert Bus what it is, a positive gathering of people from across the world to help kids be kids.

You folks rock.
